Il frontman dei The National presenta il nuovo singolo “Distant Axis” accompagnato da un video diretto dal fratello Tom Berninger e da Chris Sgroi.
Brano tratto dal suo album di debutto solista Serpentine Prison – la title track era stata condivisa qualche tempo fa – prodotto dal famoso polistrumentista di Memphis Booker T. Jones, che uscirà il 2 ottobre via Book Records, una nuova etichetta formata da Berninger e Jones in collaborazione con la Concord Records.
L’album vede il contributo di molti artisti tra cui Matt Barrick (The Walkmen, Jonathan FireEater), Andrew Bird, Mike Brewer, Hayden Desser, Scott Devendorf (The National), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz), Booker T. Jones, Teddy Jones, Brent Knopf (EL VY, Menomena), Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut), Walter Martin (The Walkmen, Jonathan FireEater), Sean O’Brien, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan), Kyle Resnick (The National, Beirut), Matt Sheehy (EL VY, Lost Lander) e Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers). Alla produzione ha collaborato anche Sean O’Brien.
Oltre al suo lavoro con The National, Berninger ha anche collaborato con Brent Knopf sotto il nome EL VY pubblicando nel 2015 Return to the Moon. Nel 2019 Berninger è apparso in Between Two Ferns: The Movie e ha affiancato Phoebe Bridgers nel brano “Walking on a String” per la soundtrack del film.
